New Narratives: Research and choreography on South East Asian Themes for dance by Aravinth Kumarasamy, Artistic Director, Apsaras Arts, Singapore

Aravinth is the Artistic Director behind the upcoming dance production, Añjasa, which Milapfest will be presenting in Liverpool and London this month. He has been researching on south east Asian based themes suitable for dance choreography in his quest for new narratives for Indian dance. His experience over two decades includes working with scholars and collaborating with choreographers, dancers and musicians from Thailand. Cambodia, Indonesia and Laos. Aravinth will be sharing is experience in research, avenues explored and challenges he has overcome in his pursuit.

About Aravinth Kumarasamy
Aravinth Kumarasamy is a multi-talented artiste involved in Indian dance, music, theatre and related fields. Aravinth’s creations at Apsaras Arts have been acclaimed as world class seamlessly blending innovative choreography based on traditional dance vocabulary, thereby progressively redefining the boundaries of Bharatanatyam ensemble work.  Aravinth is the proud recipient of several awards including the Singapore’s “Young Artiste Award” by the National Arts Council of Singapore, Aravinth is a regular speaker at international conferences on dance, music and the performing arts.

The talk is free to attend and will be a great way of getting an indepth insight into the making of the “Añjasa” dance production which will be heading to London and Liverpool this month.
