Rhythm Yatra, meaning ‘rhythmic journey’, is presented by a leading ensemble of percussionists who are harnessing the power of Indian percussion in exciting new ways. Using intricate rhythm patterns and intuitive and spontaneous interplay between members, the ensemble draws audiences into a world of sound which is at once thrilling and mesmerising.  By combining Indian and world music percussion, they create a captivating sound and a unique concert experience.

Prathap Ramachandra, Kousic Sen, Pirashanna Thevarajah and Asaf Avidan are experts in their respective percussion fields.

Pirashanna Thevarajah  Mridangam & Kanjira

Pirashanna Thevarajah is an extremely versatile percussionist, he has great command over various percussion instruments especially Mridangam, Kanjira, Ghatam and Morsing. He has performed with many classical and contemporary artists such as Pandit Ravi Shankar, Prof.T.V. Gopalakrishnan, Mandolin U. Shrinivas,  Ganesh & Kumaresh, Anoushka Shankar, Talvin Singh, Karsh Kale, to name a few, and has performed across Europe, India, Canada, and America in many prestigious venues and festivals.

Prathap Ramachandra Gatham & Mridangam

Born in Bangalore, Prathap began his training with his brother Prakash, and later with K.N. Krishnamurthy. Since his youth, Prathap has been playing regularly for TV, radio, concerts and festivals around the world, together with renowned artists. His collaborations in fusion music and dance projects is a constant, and he is always looking for inspiration and innovation.

Kousic Sen  Tabla

Born in Kolkata, Kousic studied with the late master Pandit Vishwanath Bose, and later with his son Pandit Kumar Bose.  He has been playing internationally for for the last 25 years together with some of the major names in Indian classical usic and other world genres. The winner of several tabla competitions, Kousic pertisipates regularly in international festivals and fusion music projects.
