British-Asian clarinettist Arun Ghosh presents a collaborative set in a special performance for INDIKA 2018. Inspired by IndoJazz, electro-psychedelia and the sounds of the Asian Underground, this show features new material and radical re-imaginings of Ghosh’s previous work.
Friday 26th October 2018, 8 – 10 pm
24 Kitchen Street, Liverpool
Featuring South-Asian rhythm futurist Sarathy Korwar, alongside rising saxophone star Chelsea Carmichael, Marli Wren brings an indie dimension to Ghosh’s hypnotic bassline aesthetic. The group expression is augmented with Ghosh’s beloved long-term collaborator, the award-winning Jason Singh on beatbox and electronics. Northern jazz legend, John Ellis completes the line-up, with synth-led textures and ambience.
The sonic outcome is a Kaos-fuelled clash of mystical melodies and twisted taals, detuned drones and dark electro-tones; a staunchly Desi take on the new and celebrated British Jazz revolution.
This event is strictly age 18+.
Indika is Europe’s finest festival of Indian arts curated by Milapfest and will be running in venues across Liverpool and beyond from 17th October to 3rd November. For full listings, click here.
