First half featuring Pandit Madhup Mudgal and Sawani Mudgal
Hindustani vocal duet featuring father daughter duo Madhup Mudgal and Sawani Mudgal. Madhup Mudgal is one of the leading Indian classical singers of his generation. He heads the Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, Delhi’s leading and oldest music institution, founded by his late father and first guru, Professor Vinay Chandra Maudgalya.
His daughter, Sawani, continues the family tradition as a brilliant vocalist, performer and teacher. Together Madhup and Sawani perform a Hindustani vocal duet accompanied by tabla maestro, Kousic Sen.
Second half featuring Madhavi Mudgal
The Maudgalya family has been immersed in music education, research and performances for over five decades, and this is also reflected in dance.
In the second half of the evening, Odissi dancer and sister of Madhup Mudgal, Madhavi Mudgal, performs a selection of beautiful pieces from the classical Odissi repertoire. Madhavi is highly acclaimed for her deep insight into the art of choreography. She is one of the leading Odissi artists of her time and a prolific performer and teacher.
