Pandit Ranajit Sengupta Sarod
Kousic Sen Tabla
Milapfest presents Pandit Ranajit Sengupta, a musician renowned for his energy and incredible skill on the sarod, a beautiful stringed instrument of the Hindustani music tradition. Smaller than the sitar, the sarod is fretless and therefore able to produce the continuous slides between notes known as meend, which is unique to Indian music.
Ranajit is widely recognised as one of the leading sarod musicians of our time, having toured extensively all over the world and collaborated with a wide range of musicians, which have influenced and enriched his own practice.
Ranajit will be accompanied by internationally renowned tabla artist Kousic Sen, a virtuoso performer who is loved for his incredible skill and creativity. Together they present a programme of pieces displaying the artistic brilliance of the famous Maihar Gharana.
“His style of sarod playing resembles that of Ali Akbar Khan and reminds of the lyricism so much associated with the late Ustad, once described by Yehudi Menuhin as the greatest instrumentalist of all times”. – The Hindu, India.Read about Ranajit on his website here.
