Ranajit Sengupta – Sarod
Shahbaz Hussain – Tabla

Ranajit Sengupta is a musician renowned for his energy and incredible skill on the sarod, a stringed instrument of the Hindustani tradition. Smaller than the sitar, the sarod is fretless and therefore able to produce the continuous slides between notes known as meend, which is unique to Indian music. Ranajit is widely recognised as one of the leading sarod musicians of our time and is currently the lead Composer for Samyo & Tarang. He has toured extensively all over the world, and collaborated with a wide range of musicians, which have influenced and enriched his own practice.

Ranajit will perform a programme of pieces from the classical Hindustani repertoire, accompanied by internationally renowned tabla artist Shahbaz Hussain.

“His style of sarod playing resembles that of Ali Akbar Khan and reminds of the lyricism so much associated with the late Ustad, once described by Yehudi Menuhin as the greatest instrumentalist of all times”. – The Hindu, India.
