Gaurav Mazumdar will lead a series of three FREE sessions for those new to learning the Sitar, spaces on the course are available for both participants and observers and each session can be booked individually.
Gaurav Mazumdar is a Sitarist with huge experience in concerts and teaching all over the world, and has collaborated with western musicians such as Daniel Hope and Philip Glass and composed for and performed with the English Chamber Orchestra. Gaurav was trained for many years under his Guru Pandit Ravi Shankar, and also performed with George Harrison, and over the years, connected with all forms of world music. The Free Sitar Sessions at Milapfest will give participants and observers the chance this world famous Indian instrument, and can help you enjoy and appreciate the genre more.
The course of classes will cover the following topics:
Session 1 – 24 November – Indian music theory & background
Session 2 – 1 December – Ragas & Talas- the melodies & rhythms of Indian music
Session 3 – 8 December – The Art of Improvisation
Participants are encouraged to bring their own instrument to play during sessions, or even sing or observe to get involved.

Milapfest’s Arts School is a weekly programme of courses offered at The Cornerstone Building of Liverpool Hope University.
