Listening to the rich and resonant sound of Lalgudi GJR Krishan’s violin is a mesmerising experience taking audiences on a richly melodious journey into the heart of Carnatic music.  Lalgudi GJR Krishnan is the torchbearer of an incredible musical legacy left by none other than his own father, the Late Lalgudi Jayaraman.  His violin is complemented with the sounds of South Indian percussion, the mridangam,  played by Prathap Ramachandra.

Second Half

Leela Samson Bharatanatyam

Padma Shri Leela Samson is arguably the leading Bharatanatyam soloist of her generation. Strict adherence to the precise Kalakshetra style of her alma mater is the keystone of Leela’s performances, and out of this precision comes a purity and grandeur which are seldom seen in dance. Her immense sense of grace, control and technical brilliance are a joy to watch.  For Indika, Leela performs a selection of pieces which feature pure dance (nritta), depictions of a various emotions (abhinaya) and drama (natya).
