This summer we’re taking live music into the Tate Liverpool gallery for Music for Mohamedi.

Two morning concerts featuring Tarang sitarists, Raaheel Hussain and Jasdeep Singh Degun alongside tabla maestro Kousic Sen, will celebrate the link between artist and inspiration by exploring a raga that is known to have inspired Mohamedi.

Born in Karachi and raised in Mumbai, Nasreen is now considered to be one of the most significant artists within the modernist tradition, with her work receiving great critical acclaim internationally in recent years. Nasreen Mohamedi is the largest solo show of her work in the UK to date, giving many visitors their first encounter with her varied practice which includes painting, drawing and photography. 

Nasreen is known to have listened to music while working in her studio and that one raga, Miyan Ki Todi, particularly inspired her. In the north Indian or Hindustani music tradition, ragas are written to be heard at a specific time of day; in this case, Miyan Ki Todi is a late morning raga, making it perfect for the timing of this concert.

The concerts take place on Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th June, and take place within the exhibition gallery. Performances begin at 11am and are free to drop in.
