Uniting Arts through Hearts

The TARANG Experience

Tarang is a national ensemble for Indian music, created by Milap in 2003. It offers advanced opportunities for young adults and emerging artists exploring careers in Indian music. Originally designed as the next step after SAMYO, Tarang remains a vital part of an emerging artist’s career. The collective creates fresh, distinctive, and modern music.

The Milap Pathway

Milap is the UK’s premier organization for Indian arts and culture, providing a pathway for the growth of Indian music and dance artists. Milap’s comprehensive ecosystem offers performance, recording, teaching, and research opportunities. We help artists develop through our Milap Ensembles and connect them to additional opportunities within the company, including festivals and events. Many SAMYO and Tarang artists have already become professionals, and we aim to provide a holistic, comprehensive pathway for artists of all backgrounds.

Training at residentials and reunions

Weekend and longer residentials and reunions are key opportunities for Tarang members to collaborate, learn, and create. Our programs include intensive training sessions where musicians and singers refine their skills and explore new ideas. We also provide performance opportunities with peers and creative sessions to develop new works for performances and recordings. These experiences are essential for every artist’s development.

Production Sessions

One distinctive feature of Tarang is our collaborative music-making process. Part of our repertoire is created in a studio-based environment, where initial ideas are refined into finished products with the help of Milap producers and Tarang musicians. These recordings are then released digitally worldwide.

Rehearsals & Performances

Milap arranges performances at mainstream venues and festivals for the Tarang collective. The rehearsals, preparation, and delivery of these concerts are crucial experiences for our musicians. Tarang members gain valuable life experiences through this process and receive professional fees for some performances.

Learning & Development

Tarang’s program focuses on the holistic development of each artist. Through our activities, we ensure that our members become more confident, creative, effective communicators, collaborators, and ambassadors. We equip them for future careers, whether within or outside Indian music.
