The piano, an instrument rarely heard in Indian classical music, is given a Carnatic make-over and heard alongside the haunting and emotive sounds of the Bamboo flute in this unique and groundbreaking concert.  Two of India’s highly acclaimed and brilliant musicians, pianist Anil Srinivasan and flautist Rakesh Chaurasia present the UK premiere of their new jugalbhandi (duet).

Rakesh Chaurasia stormed on to the Indian music scene as a child prodigy under the guidance of his uncle, the legendary Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia. The most accomplished of his disciples, Rakesh shows all the promise to carry the Chaurasia legacy to brilliant new heights.

Anil Srinivasan is a musician, innovator and educator dedicated to developing classical Indian music for a contemporary audience. In his endeavor to define a new aesthetic he has utilised the piano to create a new framework for music and a new concept for classical Carnatic music particularly.

They will be accompanied by world renowned tabla maestro, Kousic Sen.

Sujata Mohapatra Odissi

Sujata Mohapatra is arguably one of the finest Odissi dancers of recent times. Her Guru, Kelucharan Mohapatra was a legend in the world of Indian dance, and Sujata embodies  all the very best traits of his style – grace, beauty, passion, energy and striking stage presence. Her dance has an arresting and a striking sculpturesque quality that is most dynamic. Among the present generation she has established herself as a dancer of repute, having achieved the techniques and subtleties of the Odissi form. Her grace, perfection and spellbinding charm has won her accolades worldwide. For Indika, she performs a selection of much-loved classical pieces from the Odissi repertoire.
