The Capstone Theatre

Percussion concert featuring multi percussionist Pirashanna Thevarajah accompanied by Kousic Sen on tabla and Tarang member Kiruthika Nadarjah on violin.

A highly talented and versatile performer, Pirashanna is one of the few percussionists of his generation to have a command over a variety south Indian percussion instruments such as the Mridangam, Kanjira, Ghatam and Morsing; and is also proficient in the art of konnakol (Indian spoken rhythm).

He has collaborated and performed with many of the world’s leading Indian classical and contemporary musicians, including Pandit Ravi Shankar, Anoushka Shankar, Dr M. Balamuralikrishna, Mandolin U. Shrinivas, violin duo Ganesh and Kumaresh, Talvin Singh, Susheela Raman, Nitin Sawhney and Karsh Kale.  He has also featured on high profile recordings including Concert for George and Anoushka Shankar’s Grammy nominated Traveller.

Pirashanna performs a series of brilliant pieces featuring highly complex and intricate rhythmic patterns, interwoven with tabla beats and melodic violin, demonstrating his terrific skill and versatility.
