What does a typical day at Milap look like for you?

There’s no typical day at Milap – that’s what makes it exciting! On any given day I might be dealing with either something to do with running the charity, or planning one of our artistic events. I switch between very different projects or tasks throughout the day, and do a lot of talking and writing! Some of my favourite parts of the day include selling Milap to prospective supporters, planning with artists, or working on a project with my team.  

What is the best thing about working with Milap?

The work is varied, fascinating, creative and challenging, but I love the fact that I have the opportunity to really impact people, hopefully making a positive impact on their lives. We have seen many emerging artists and students grow over the years, and this is really satisfying.

What are your favourite Milap memories?

The very first SAMYO concert in 2002 at The Lowry – the sound created by that first orchestra was unlike anything I’d ever heard before! 

Opening the first Dance India Asia Pacific in Singapore in 2011 – this was the first international collaboration for us and the memory is significant for the role it played in our collaboration with Apsaras Arts.

Olivia Harrison joined us at our Indian Raga festival at Sgt. Pepper at 50 in Liverpool in 2017; the whole day was brilliant, an all-day festival event with some amazing artists and events. Towards the end, it was emotional and incredible, as artists, audiences and producers, we all felt the weight of the album’s history while we celebrated.
