Niladri Kumar: The Royal Music of India

What is the heart of Indian Music? What is the power of melody?

Experience music through one of the most royal instruments of India, the sitar, accompanied by the tabla. Celebrated sitar maestro brings an unparalleled immersive experience of the timeless expanse of the classical Indian heritage through his own unique, captivating and popularly loved style, which captures the heart and stirs the soul.

Widely acknowledged as India’s foremost sitar player, Niladri Kumar’s musical prowess spans generations, rooted in a profound understanding of Indian Classical Music. Trained under his father and Guru, Pandit Kartick Kumar, a senior disciple of Pandit Ravi Shankar, he was heralded as a prodigy and has since pushed the boundaries of classical music. His sitar mastery, marked by dexterous double stops, whispering string bends, and rapid taans, sets him apart. The audience will have a flavour of how an Indian music concert unravels. Starting with a slow and meditative ‘alaap’, the depth of the raag, then going into the ‘jod’ gat and ‘jhala’. What makes it most fascinating is that it all happens spontaneously in the moment – completely improvised.

For the first time, the maestro will perform in Liverpool accompanied by the young virtuoso tabla player Yashwant Vaishnav. Yashwant embarked on his musical journey at three and is a natural talent. Guided by revered mentors, he promises an extraordinary musical synergy with Niladri Kumar’s sitar, uniting tradition and innovation.

The intricacies and emotions explored in the Raag and Taal promises a memorable and once-in-a-lifetime Indian music experience.

Don’t miss the opportunity to witness these incredible artists as they continue to captivate audiences worldwide with their culturally rooted yet contemporary musical style.
