Dance India – a flagship project of the core artistic output of Milapfest (UK) has brought its unique dance camp to Singapore in partnership with Apsara Arts. Dance India Asia Pacific celebrated its fifth year and inaugurated the seven-day camp at the beautiful Goodman Arts Centre.

MoreOn Days three and four of the Core Training Programme at Dance India Asia Pacific, we saw great energy, determination and dedication from our participants. After opening days interspersed with a variety of talks and workshops, the last few days were focused on core training.
MoreThis day at Dance India really symbolised the depth and breadth of knowledge and inspiration that Indian classical dance gives anyone who cares to notice . We learned today of sculpture, painting, rhythm, mythology, emotions, physicality and theatre, to name just a few.

MoreOn the fourth and fifth days of Dance India, early tiredness and midweek cruising give way to the feeling that we are already nearing the end. A new surge of energy fills the school as people realise that there are only a few hours left with our teachers.
MoreWarm up on Sunday is taken by Sheejith Krishna, and the participants already began to feel the physical toll of an intensive day of dancing on the first day. With the oppressive heat and sunshine in Singapore, hydration was a priority for everyone, and the endless packets of “3 in 1” tea and coffee and biscuits provided by our hosts helped to get our dancers through the day.
MoreWarm up sessions are lead by our faculty tutors, and we start early at 8am with Mythili Prakash’s style of warm up and exercise routine. Preparing the dancers for the day ahead, tailored movements helped to give our participants ideas on some of the basic processes of our professionals.
MoreOn the last morning of Dance India Asia Pacific, we see a hint of the dramatic impact our gurus have on the participants of the school. Each class presents an extract of what they have learnt, and even the challenge of performing informally in front of the professionals requires confidence and courage!
MoreThis year, the third international edition of Dance India takes place in Singapore, presented by Milapfest’s Singapore partners Apsaras Arts, with The Esplanade and supported by National Arts Council Singapore. A new #DIAP14 series of articles on the Milapfest blog will tell some of the stories of this Asia Pacific edition of our international school.
More“Sweat. Pain. These are our badges, Leela Akka said. So now, when we’re tired, we’re telling each other that!” The advice is timely; the participants need all the grit and collective goodwill they can muster on Day 3, the most grueling thus far.
