Looking back at Dance India 2014

This year’s Dance India saw 90 students, teachers and Gurus descend on Liverpool Hope University’s Creative Campus for a week of intensive training and enrichment in three classical Indian dance forms, Bharatanatyam, Kathak and Odissi. Filled with dance practice, rhythm sessions and daily lecture demonstrations, the school is a complete immersion in dance for the participants and tutors alike.

Many of the experiences both students and teachers have at Dance India cannot be had anywhere else in the world, except maybe Dance India Asia Pacific!

Here’s a snapshot of the thoughts, moments and memories from Dance India 2014:

The Dhananjayans

“Spending a week with Milapfest in Liverpool was an elevating and enlightening experience. The great opportunity to interact and get closer to ‘the greats’ in our world is an everlasting joy in one’s life. We cherish every moment we spend with students and legends in Natya and music.”

“The legends we got to meet such as Pandit Birju Maharaj, The Dhananjayans, Alarmel Valli and the wealth of knowledge and experience they have collectively has been mind blowing. Well done Milap for getting them together”. Dance India Participant 2014

“Dance India enhanced my knowledge, technique and approach to abhinaya, but most of all rekindled my passion and desire to improve constantly and aim for perfection”. Dance India Participant 2014

Alarmel Valli

“It was a wonderfully enriching and rewarding experience to be a part of Dance India. The enthusiasm, passion and devotion to the arts that one sees everywhere on the campus was inspiring. The difference that Milapfest makes to students lives is something that will stay with them all their lives. Here, one can truly experience your motto – uniting hearts through arts. Thank you for a memorable experience!”
