Milap’s ensembles have taken another exciting step onto the international stage with their performance of Mind the Gap at the Kolkata International Youth Arts Festival (KIYA Fest).
Originally created for Milap in 2015, Mind the Gap is a suite of four contemporary compositions — Mind the Gap, Urban Mantra, Perc at Your Own Risk, and The Wizard— exploring the soundscape of urban life through the lens of Indian classical music. Since October 2024, our current ensembles have been rehearsing and recording new versions of the pieces, culminating in a fresh studio performance in April 2025.
This recorded music was broadcast as part of the KIYA Fest performance on June 21st, 2025, also performed live by a choir and orchestra of over 100 from Kolkata and around India.
The second half of the festival featured a moving children’s production inspired by Shakespeare, showcasing young voices and creative storytelling on stage.
This was an official collaboration between Milap, Dr Rajeeb Chakraborty, and On Air Productions, and marks a significant contribution to Milap’s growing visibility and partnerships in India.
📺 The full performance premiered on YouTube on Saturday 5 July 2025, hosted by KIYA Fest:

This project is another example of Milap’s mission to create new traditions in Indian music — through connection, innovation, and artistic excellence.
