Workshop
A Training and Sharing Day of Discovery
Wednesday 16th October, 1-4pm
Liverpool Hope University, Liverpool
Introducing Indian Music with Confidence is an afternoon workshop to learn, understand and share ideas about teaching Indian music in the classroom. Aimed at primary school teachers, this workshop offers tips and techniques that can enhance your delivery of Indian music to learners in exciting ways. The day will develop the teachers’ ability to cover the aims of the National Curriculum for music which states that pupils should learn about music across a range of ‘genres, styles and traditions’. This workshop will demonstrate how Indian music can help pupils to achieve this.
The afternoon will include an introduction to the new instruments INDIA resource website and app; an Indian percussion performance by international artist Kousic Sen, and a discussion about using schemes of work in an age-appropriate format for primary school learners. A unit of work for KS2 children will be shared and accompanying resources explained by music education specialist, Dr Anne James.
The event is brought to you by Liverpool Hope University and Milapfest, a cultural education partnership with a track record in the development of performance, education and artist development resources.
Hope’s electro acoustic music specialist, Dr Manuella Blackburn will be demonstrating the Indian Music app she has developed in conjunction with Milapfest. All participants will receive free access to the app, which will feature in the related unit of work provided.
The event is importantly key for networking, building relationships with educational partners, local schools and teachers who want to know more about teaching music, and Indian music in particular.
