BEYOND ROOTS
We at Milapfest are thrilled to announce the release of our next album, featuring rising star pianist Rekesh Chauhan!
Rekesh Chauhan is a versatile multi-instrumentalist with both Indian and Western classical training. Recorded by Milapfest in Autumn 2014, and featuring tabla maestro Kousic Sen, Beyond Roots is a breakthrough album, exploring new territories in contemporary Indian classical music.
Rekesh shares his thoughts on the album:
Having being brought up in Britain I have always been exposed to a wide variety of music which has been intrinsic to my upbringing combined with traditional Indian classical music as my foundation. My fascination with exploring how the genus of music from my Indian heritage can synergise with other styles stems from this.
Whilst recording this album I decided to stick to the traditional format of an Indian classical Music recital; the piano itself provides me with the perfect brewing ground to amalgamate and experiment with different musical styles. I have been fortunate to record this album at the beautiful Capstone Theatre in Liverpool which helped confine that live ambiance I set out to capture. At its heart, this album encapsulates the compassion and sound from my roots which I hope you will enjoy and take you on a journey Beyond Roots.
It has always been a dream of mine to record a Piano solo album of Indian classical music and Milapfest have been instrumental in turning this dream into a reality – I am thankful to the entire team at Milapfest who have made this possible.
Beyond roots has been recorded and produced by Dr. Ian Percy for Milapfest with support from Liverpool Hope University.
