Indian/Western quartet Simon Thacker’s Svara-Kanti has been acclaimed across the world for redefining the limits of intercultural collaboration. They perform Simon’s stunning new music uniting the immense expressive possibilities of ragas with jazz harmonic explorations. By exploring jazz and Indian improvisation, reimagining folk styles and extending traditions, Svara Kanti combine the complex rhythmic systems of India with the boundless searching of Western jazz.
Simon Thacker’s Svara-Kanti features Simon’s unique synthesis of world traditions and contemporary innovation on the classical guitar with the beautiful voice of Japjit Kaur, Polish cellist Justyna Jablonska, who recently performed with the great conductor Sir Simon Rattle in Switzerland, and tabla master Sarvar Sabri, who has a musical lineage stretching back ten generations to the Royal Court of the Mughal Emperor Akbar.
This performance is produced in partnership with The Capstone Theatre as part of the Liverpool International Jazz Festival.
