Raam’s Samyo Diary

Raam’s Samyo Diary

Samyo members have been busy with exams over Summer, so in May and June there are no formal orchestra events or activities. Samyo’s next event is part of the Music for Youth National Festival in Birmingham, where the orchestra’s conductors and members will take part in workshops and a performance. More details here.

While busy with exams, Samyo’s regular contributor Raam Jeganathan doesn’t have any Samyo news to report on, but he found time to share an inspirational video he recently saw.

Have you heard:

This month I have decided to share a wonderful collaboration which left me speechless. This concert was performed at the prestigious Festival Les Nuits de Fourvière in Lyon, France.

The festival invites accomplished artists from different arts to come and perform. The atmosphere is always very enjoyable. The main performer in this video is the legendary Zakir Hussain. Zakirji is arguably the greatest ever tabla artist. He has performed in a wide range of music genres. He has tutored Samyo and also upcoming artist and Tarang member Rishii Chowdhury.

This concert features Zakirji alongside some of music’s leading artistes, such as Rakesh Chaurasia on flute (Music India tutor) and Ganesh Rajagopalan (former Samyo tutor) on violin. Some interesting percussion instruments are used.

I hope you enjoy! I’ll see you next month with more ‘Have you heard.’
