Kaavish – National Premiere

Kaavish – National Premiere

Milapfest is delighted to present the national premiere of a new dance creation celebrating the Sonia Sabri Company’s brilliant works of Kathak over the last ten years in the UK.

Sonia is amongst the brightest and most inspirational of British dancers, working hard to preserve and propagate the beautiful form of Kathak internationally.  She combines the rich traditions of classical North Indian Kathak with a contemporary approach, reflecting an appreciation of Indian and British culture.

Renowned for its natural and fluid lines combined with energy and vigour, Kathak has much in common with dance styles as Flamenco, with which it shares historical origins. The event will premiere a new Kathak duet specially choreographed by Sonia, along with highlights of Sonia’s most celebrated works through a fascinating combination of live performance and visuals.

Award-winning dancer-choreographer Sonia Sabri is internationally renowned for taking a fresh and individual approach to the Indian classical dance form of Kathak. She established Sonia Sabri Company (SSCo) in 2002 to provide a platform to present Kathak in a new light and to new audiences, and the company has gained critical acclaim both nationally and internationally for its innovative collaborations and virtuosic performance.
